Simkin S. de Pio (b.1976)
Grand Prize winner of the 1st Post and Lintel On-the-Spot Portrait Sketching Contest. Awarded Honorable Mention at both the 27th and 28th Shell National Student's Art Competition. He started exhibiting at the age of sixteen and joined a group exhibition entitled Alay Kay Ama at the Liongoren Art Gallery. His first solo exhibit, titled "Personification," was held at the Galerie Astra and The Room Upstairs. Received his academic training at the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts. His creative principles emphasize his ideas about language and behavior, order and disorder. Part learned and part developed for himself a painting style which indicated his proclivities for human anatomy and his explosion of random energy, thus producing some of his strongest and mature works. He also painted landscapes, portraits and still lifes. Worked as a graphic artist and freehand illustrator at the UP NISMED, AMA Computer University Head Office and PetPlans. Has taught Philippine Art History at the De La Salle College of St. Benilde. A teacher and provider of graphic design services in Xavier School. Full-time painter.
